A WOMAN was taken to hospital after slipping on wet ground in Ledbury.
Firefighters from Ledbury came across the injured woman, who had fallen in the pouring rain and was unable to move, as they returned from a call to a house fire.
A fire service spokesperson said the crew used their first aid and trauma care skills and experience to help the woman, who had a suspected broken leg.
They administered trauma care, kept her warm with a space blanket, and made a shelter from equipment and materials on the fire engine.
Her injury meant it was not possible to move her to the fire station.
The fire crew remained with the woman until she was handed into the care of paramedics, who took her to Hereford County Hospital.
“All firefighters at HWFRS are trained to First Response Emergency Care level 3 trauma care,” said Group Commander Stu Crebbin.
“This means they are all skilled and equipped to deal with a range of pre-hospital care emergencies even under the most testing conditions and in any weather.”
