A PRIMARY school was "cleared and cleaned" after a supply teacher returned from an area of Italy where there have been hundreds of confirmed coronavirus cases.

Leominster Primary School followed guidance from Public Health England and Herefordshire Council about how to respond to the incident.

In a letter sent home to parents on Tuesday, headteacher Tim Mamak said: "A supply teacher

informed us that she had just returned from holiday in an area to the north of Pisa in Italy, where there is concern about cases of coronavirus.

"In line with advice regarding the return of people from areas north of Pisa, the supply teacher was required to go home.

"In line with the advice from the Government regarding how schools should respond to concerns around coronavirus generally, the areas that the supply teacher had been in were cleared and then cleaned.

"There is no need for the school to close and all required action have been carried out."

Advice from Public Health England is schools should generally not close over issues relating to coronavirus.

A Herefordshire Council spokesperson added: "Leominster Primary School were provided with the latest advice relating to the coronavirus.

"The school then took the appropriate action in accordance with the guidance."
