A WOMAN stole honey and nightclothes because of her drug habit, a court has heard.

Nina Lynette Bagley, of Bath Street, Hereford, admitted stealing the items when she appeared before magistrates in Hereford.

Prosecutor Emily Clewer said Bagley had entered the Holland and Barrett store in Hereford’s High Town on January 15. While there she ripped the security seal from a box and took a jar of manuka honey worth £51.99, concealing it in her bag and leaving the shop without paying.

Nine days later, on January 24, Bagley stole a nightdress worth £10 from Primark after visiting the Widemarsh Street shop to return some items.

She returned to the shop, where she was caught on CCTV stealing more items of nightwear worth a total of £60 on January 29.

Chris Read, for Bagley, said the 38-year-old is already subject to a community order and is trying to follow a drug rehabilitation programme.

“These offences are simply acquisitive theft due to drugs. She is a lady with some problems, and was having trouble with people at her accommodation.”

The court heard Bagley is hoping to be accepted to a residential drug rehabilitation facility, and has been following a plan to reduce her methadone dose.

Bagley was fined £40 and must pay £70 in compensation to Primark, £51.99 to Holland and Barrett, and a £32 victim surcharge.

No cost order was made due to a lack of means.
