HEREFORDSHIRE'S Polish community has come together to show their support for the NHS, with a huge donation of supplies for staff.
Organisers Iwona Humienna of Together-Hereford and Rafal Dankowski decided to set up a fundraiser after seeing the efforts that NHS staff across Herefordshire are going to during the coronavirus outbreak.
"I saw Rafal post on a Facebook group for Poles asking if anyone in the Polish community would be interested in providing help for the NHS," Iwona said.
"Within minutes, he had a massive response. I offered our support, and our community group account to help raise the money.
"After 12 hours, we had over £400, and in four days it was up to £1,662.
"If not for Rafal and his initiative, this would not have happened."
The group contacted Wye Valley NHS Trust fundraising manager Katie Farmer for advice on how the money would be best spent, settling on purchasing food and drinks for hospital staff, carrying out their first delivery on March 31.
"But this isn't the end, as many people want to donate cakes for NHS staff, and we still have the money for goods for a second planned delivery on Thursday, together with cakes," Iwona said.
"We didn't expect and were not prepared for the response we got from these good people."
