VOLUNTEERS have stepped up to the mark, providing scrubs and protective personal equipment across the country, and Herefordshire is no exception, with sewing enthusiasts joining the nationwide group of volunteers making much needed scrubs for NHS workers.
For the Love of Scrubs Herefordshire, are among those who have been busy making scrub bags for wards across Herefordshire and beyond. Sarah Plumridge is part of the group, which is co-ordinated by Davina Diamond, and she has made bags, gowns and scrub hats since answering the call for volunteers.
When she’s not running up scrubs, Sarah is a teacher in Marden and powers up her sewing machine between setting remote learning for her class and taking her turn on the rota for the Herefordshire Marches Federation of Academies hub to care for key workers’ children.
Marie-Lou Evans, meanwhile, was approached by a friend of her daughters, who asked her to make some scrub caps for Herefordshire A&E. She did so, along with trousers for first responders.
Herefordshire GP Sophie Whittal loves her new PPE and has expressed her thanks: “Best scrubs I’ve ever had. Honestly there are some seriously talented, generous and kind people out there.”
