A FORMER machine operator who made valves for Spitfire engines has celebrated turning 100 surrounded by family.
After months of having to rely on video calls to keep in touch with her family due to the coronavirus pandemic, Brockhampton Court Nursing Home resident Lily Danks was treated to a socially distanced garden party in celebration of the landmark birthday.
One of 12 children, mother of four Lily spent her early years in Birmingham, moving to Brockhampton Court 18 months ago.
Activities co-ordinator Mandy Robinson said: "Lily is a cheeky, fun loving lady who loves dancing and singing. It was so lovely that she was able to spend her special day with her family, and she was very busy with phone and video calls!"
