A CYCLIST on a one-woman mission to spread kindness is set to arrive in Hereford this week as she takes on a world record attempt.
Nahla Summers is undertaking her biggest awareness-raising challenge to date as she makes her way around the UK and Ireland on an ElliptiGO bike, covering an impressive 5,000 miles and attempting to accomplish a world record in the process,
The Sunshine People social enterprise founder is due to arrive in Hereford on Wednesday as she takes on the 2020 Sunshine People Kindness Challenge.
To promote the nationwide awareness campaign, aimed at producing one million acts of kindness, Nahla will travel through every city in the UK and Ireland, spelling out the world ‘KINDNESS’ by the route she takes and urging the public to engage in random acts of kindness.
Following the death of her partner in 2012, Nahla set up Sunshine People to spread hope, kindness and improve mental health and well-being across the world. In his memory, Nahla has gone on to highlight the importance of kind deeds and philanthropy and has completed physically demanding challenges to raise awareness and vital funds for good causes throughout the world.
Nahla kicked off her 2020 Challenge in Truro on August 18 and will finish in London on November 24, travelling 60 miles a day to stop at every city in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
Nahla said “This is the greatest physical challenge I have undertaken to date. I commenced my journey in Truro and have weaved my way through Plymouth, Exeter, Southampton, Brighton and towns and cities in between. I arrived in Wales yesterday and will make headway towards Hereford tomorrow. I’m looking forward to taking in the sights of Hereford during my rest day!”
“We intend to raise awareness of the positive impact human decency and kindness can have on those around us. Especially during these times as we begin to emerge from lockdown, we’re reminding people that one simple act of kindness can change the world for someone. We’re not asking for monetary donations for this challenge, we’re simply encouraging people to do something nice for someone today. Take time out to connect and engage, check in on your neighbour, buy someone a coffee or give someone your time freely.”
