A HEREFORDSHIRE farmer has the chance to win £1,000 this weekend and the title of Britain’s Fittest Farmer 2020.

Ben Andrews, aged 38, from a vegetable and beef farm near Wellington is set to take part in the live final of the competition this Saturday (October 17).

Ten man and ten women are left in the Farmers Weekly competition at Farm Fitness in Essex.

The 20 finalists have been picked from hundreds of applicants.

They now face the ultimate test of their speed, strength and stamina for their chance to win a £1,000 with one man and one woman from the farming community lift the trophies.

Competitors had to complete an online application and then a qualifier event consisting of four tough physical challenges aimed at putting their general fitness to the test and an interview with the judges focusing on mental health.

“This competition was designed to be a fun, upbeat way of getting the nation’s farmers to be more proactive about their health – mental and physical," said Farmers Weekly’s community editor Oli Hill.

“It seeks to support farmers’ amazing work to put food on our plates and care for our countryside, by helping them to ensure they are fit to do one of the toughest jobs.

“Every single one of our finalists make fantastic ambassadors for health and wellbeing in the agricultural industry.

"They are all deeply impressive individuals and I’m really looking forward to seeing them run, jump, lift and squat their way to victory this weekend.”
