A PRIMARY school near Leominster has told a "small number of children" to go home and self-isolate after a positive coronavirus case within the school.

Shobdon Primary School said one member of its school community had tested positive for Covid-19, with this affecting key stage one pupils in reception class and years one and two.

In a letter sent to parents on Sunday (November 8), headteacher Mary Freeman said: "We have been made aware of a member of our school community who has tested positive for Covid-19.

"We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England.

"This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advice on how to support your child.

"The small number of children who have been in close contact with the individual who has tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19), have received a letter informing them that their child must stay at home for 14 days."

"Shobdon Primary School remains open to the pupils of the Key Stage Two bubble and your child should continue to attend as normal if they remain well."

The letter did not say if it was a pupil or member of staff who had tested positive, but the school later confirmed it was a pupil in key stage one.

The school, between Leominster and Presteigne, has 88 pupils, according to Ofsted's website.

It is the 14th nursery, school or college in Herefordshire to confirm a case of Covid-19 since pupils returned in September.
