A FLOOD warning urging people that immediate action is needed has been issued for a Herefordshire village.

The Environment Agency said the flood warning, higher than a flood alert, has been issued for the River Frome near Bromyard as water levels rise.

Houses flooding in Bishop's Frome is imminent, the Environment Agency said.

"River levels are forecast to rise at the Bishop's Frome river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall.

"Consequently, flooding (of property) is imminent. We expect flooding to affect properties off the A4103 may start to be impacted by flooding.

"We expect river levels to rise until 5.40am on 24/12/20. We are closely monitoring the situation.

"Please avoid contact with flood water and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded."

A flood warning tells people to act now by turning off gas, water and electricity, moving things upstairs or to safety, and moving family, pets and car to safety.

There is also a flood alert in place for other areas near the river Frome, including Much Cowarne.
