FIREFIGHTERS in Herefordshire have had a busy day as boat crews rescue drivers stuck in floodwater.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service rescued an adult and a two children were rescued from a car in Bridge Sollars, near Hereford.

The fire service said a crew from the city's fire station were called at 11.53am on Thursday to incident, with the driver and passengers rescued by the swift water rescue team.

The spokesperson added advice was given.

The A438 Brecon Road, where it's believed the incident took place, was flooded in places on Thursday as the river Wye rose in the wake of Storm Christoph.

Earlier in the day at 10.03am, the fire service was called to the same area to three lorries stuck in floods.

After the drivers were rescued by the water rescue team from Eardisley and moved to a safe place, they were given advice.

At 12.29pm in Bridge Sollars, the Eardisley crew were called to another incident of a vehicle in floodwater, with a female and vehicle moved to dry land.

Other incidents attended by fire crews in Herefordshire on Thursday:

  • 9.42am: Crash on the A438 Bridge Sollars involving two vehicles. West Midlands Ambulance Service was also in attendance.
  • 9.50am: A property in Letton, near Hereford, flooded and advice was given to the occupants to isolate electrics.
  • 1.17pm: Crash in Westhope, near Hereford, involved a fuel leak. A casualty was released before the vehicle made safe by the crew from Eardisley.
  • 3.15pm: Flooding affecting electrics at a two-storey building near the A438 at Willersley. A crew from Eardisley used a mini ejector pump.
  • 3.57pm: A small van became stuck in floodwater near Leintwardine in north Herefordshire. A crew rescued two people and took them to dry land. 
  • 4.37pm: Man rescued from river Wye in Hereford
