A HEREFORD computer firm is giving up its time to make sure children in the county have laptops to access their schoolwork at home.
More than 100 devices have already been donated to the Hereford Times Laptops Appeal, in partnership with Laptops 2 Kids Herefordshire, as some children face a hard time learning from home during lockdown.
While some don’t have any device, and others might face online lessons via a parent’s mobile phone, people in Herefordshire have come together to do what they can to help.
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
The five-strong team at John Finch Computers, based in Hereford’s Hampton Park Road, are dedicating time to cleaning up and repairing laptops donated to the appeal, as well as securely removing personal data.
Mr Finch said he didn’t have to think twice about getting his 15-year-old firm involved with the project, which is being led by Ross-on-Wye dad Tim Brett.
“We have one guy who’s working on it constantly, and the rest chip in and help when it gets too much,” Mr Finch, 36, of Ledbury Road, said.
“Luckily, we have the resources. We’re a five-man team, so we have enough resources to commit ourselves to get it done. It’s been a bit of a mission.
“It’s definitely been far more successful and far-reaching than I thought it would. The public response has been great.”
