Herefordshire was again hit by flooding this month, and today (Saturday) several flood alerts are in place for the county.
It seems, worryingly, to be an increasingly common event as climate change brings storms of ever greater violence.
Although Storm Christoph damaged some properties in the county, it was not nearly as devastating as Storm Dennis which preceded it by a little less than a year.
Many more people were affected by the winds and torrential downpours of February 2020.
At the Hereford Times we were so shocked by the storm’s impact that we wanted not merely to report on what had happened, but to help the victims.

That is why we partnered with the Herefordshire Community Foundation – a charity that matches benefactors with worthy causes – to launch the Hereford Times Flood Appeal.
We urged our readers to support our campaign to raise funds for the victims.
And respond they did... in magnificent fashion.
Forty people received an initial £200 ‘first aid’ payment to help them cope with the immediate aftermath of the flooding.
This week, as parts of Herefordshire recovers from yet more flooding, it is both ironic and fitting that we are able to reveal the total raised by Hereford Times readers and others has reached an amazing £80,000.
It is a fund that continues to help flood victims today, including those affected this month.
We are so humbled by our readers’ generosity, and, on behalf of all they have helped, say a massive THANK YOU!
