TWENTY more people have died with coronavirus in Herefordshire, according to latest figures which show the death toll in all settings and not just hospital.

Three more care home residents have died and had coronavirus mentioned on their death certificate, taking the death toll 87 since the start of the pandemic.

The data from the Office for National Statistics shows that over the most-recent seven-day period, there had also been 16 deaths in hospitals and one in a person's private home.

It means 248 deaths involving Covid-19 happened in Herefordshire up to January 22, and in the first three weeks of January alone, 13 deaths happened in care homes.

The week before the toll stood at 227, with one other death happening in a previous week, but with a delay in it being registered.

In total since March, 87 deaths have happened at care homes and 161 elsewhere.

That includes one elsewhere, nine in private homes, four in hospices and 147 in hospital.

The figures, published weekly, are based on where Covid-19 is mentioned anywhere on the death certificate. It does not give a location more specific than Herefordshire.

The data includes deaths up to January 22, but registered up to eight days later.

This is in contrast to daily figures from NHS England which only show patients who died at the Wye Valley NHS Trust after testing positive for coronavirus.

These figures from the NHS say there have been 165 deaths at the trust as of 4pm on Monday (February 1).

Public Health England figures show that 5,986 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am on Monday (February 1) in Herefordshire, up from 5,883 the same time on Friday.
