A TEENAGER was left with a concussion and injuries to her face after she was punched by a man in Hereford.

Jamie Lee Whittingham admitted causing actual bodily harm in the attack on a teenager when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford.

Prosecutor Mark Hambling said the attack had happened after a friend of Whittingham's had approached a group of teenagers in Hereford on September 12.

The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told police that Whittingham's friend had made homophobic comments towards one of her friends, and calling her names.

She and her friends decided to walk home, but came across Whittingham, who they reported seeing throw a bottle of Stella at another girl and shouting abuse.

In a statement, the victim said the group had then watched Whittingham and his friend walk away along the Great Western Way before following at a distance towards Hunderton.

"They stopped and looked at us, but we carried on as that was the way home," the victim said.

"As we got closer, he [Whittingham] said "I'm going to give this girl a hiding." All I remember was one punch to my face. There was blood in my mouth and I fell to the floor."

The court heard the attack, which was caught on CCTV, left the girl with an injury to her lip and a concussion.

MORE FROM THE COURTS:

Edmund Middleton, for Whittingham, said the 27-year-old accepted that he had "snapped."

"He has a very long history with ADHD, which he suffers with to a much greater degree than others" Mr Middleton said.

"It really does continue to affect him. He describes himself as having 'lost his head' on this occasion, and that his 'head is gone' of late. It has been a difficult year for many reasons and his mental health issues may have played a role in this offence."

The case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report. Whittingham, of St Martin's Avenue, Hereford, will appear before magistrates for sentencing on March 24.
