ALL pupils in one year group at a Hereford school have been sent home after a positive coronavirus test result.

Hereford Cathedral School said its year 9 pupils would be learning remotely on Tuesday due to the positive test.

The school said it is currently talking with health bodies for contact tracing.

Assistant headteacher Patrick Jerram said “As a result of the measures in place to minimise the risk of transmission, including year group bubbles, seating plans and the wearing of face coverings, we remain confident that the virus has not been spread to staff and other pupils.

"We are looking forward to welcoming back to school tomorrow those pupils who are not close contacts of the affected child."

Any isolating pupils will be taught remotely and the school remains open for other pupils as usual.

The case was found during a round of routine lateral flow testing the secondary school pupils are doing at home.

Since secondary schools and colleges fully reopened last week, all staff and students have been asked to take part in regular lateral flow testing.

The tests used do not have to be processed by a laboratory, and can give a result in around 30 minutes.
