'More permanent' Covid testing centre being built in Hereford

Herefordshire Council said the drive-through testing centre at Merton Meadow car park, off Edgar Street in Hereford, will move to the opposite side of the City Link Road from today (Monday).

A spokesperson said this is so a "more permanent testing site is constructed", and this should open next Monday (May 17).

As well as that change, the council said that due to very low attendance figures, the Leominster testing centre in Broad Street car park will be replaced with a mobile testing unit rotated between Leominster and and Wilton Road car park in Ross-on-Wye.

Sarah Smith, Herefordshire public health consultant, said: “As we respond to changing needs we must focus our resources where they are needed most in the county.

"I would like to encourage anyone with Covid symptoms to book a test and self-isolate, to help stop the spread of the virus.”

Anyone with Covid-19 symptoms should book a test online or dial 119 from any phone to book, the council said.
