WITH regards to the increase in parking fees that John Harrington of Herefordshire Council is trying to justify, can anyone explain to him that in the real world of business no one would consider putting up their prices by 100 per cent overnight and hope to survive?
Of course, the council does not operate in the real world... as we have all learnt to our cost.

I believe it is a false economy to discourage shoppers from Hereford city centre.
This is one of the reasons for the ever-growing number of empty shops.
By increasing the parking charges Coun Harrington has at a stroke speeded up the downward spiral for the once bustling city centre.
I for one will be looking for any parking that is not council-run whenever I can, and I would encourage others to do the same.
