The life-saving work of the Covid-19 jab is celebrated in the Queen's Birthday Honours list, as vaccine tsar Kate Bingham – who's married to Hereford MP Jesse Norman – is made a dame.

Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine mastermind Professor Sarah Gilbert and the ex-chair of the UK vaccine taskforce Kate Bingham are both recognised with damehoods.

Venture capitalist Ms Bingham oversaw the procurement of the millions of vaccine doses now giving hope to the nation that the fight against the virus is being won.

She hailed the efforts to develop jabs as “a triumph of scientific and industrial collaboration”.

She is one of only three people from Herefordshire and the borders to be recognised in the list.
