AN HISTORIC Herefordshire border pub has been recognised with a prestigious award.
The Old Black Lion in Hay-on-Wye's Lion Street has been awarded the 2021 Good Food Award for Gastro Pubs.
The historic 17th century inn, set close to what was known as the Lion Gate, one of the original entrances into the medieval walled town of Hay-on-Wye has a colourful history, and it is said that Oliver Cromwell stayed at the inn whilst the Roundheads besieged Hay Castle.
The popular venue offers up a selection of local beers and ciders alongside wines and a locally sourced, seasonal menu.
It also has a selection of characterful bed and breakfast rooms.
A Good Food Awards spokesperson said the pub's customer feedback over the last 12 months demonstrated exceptional levels of food quality, service and value when compared to industry benchmarks.
