I DISAGREE with your editorial comment referring to the cancelled bypass.
You suggest we heal the wounds this divisive decision caused by accepting it and ceasing further discussion on the matter.
The decision to cancel the bypass was made by a coalition of anti-bypass minorities collectively forming a majority.
If we accept democracy we must acknowledge the current coalition may lose its majority at the next election.
The recent by-election at Newton Farm displayed a huge majority for the bypass-supporting candidate.
Repeated at the next local elections, the outcome may well lead to the reversal of the decision to cancel the bypass.
Hereford urgently needs a western bypass or ring road so the sooner it is done the better.
Fixating on low-carbon alternatives alone will not fix the problem.
How will a second eastern crossing ease congestion on the A49?
Do the council foresee much of the Rotherwas and western traffic routing through Aylestone Hill, Tupsley and Hampton Dene?
If this is the case, residents living east of the city should prepare themselves for a considerable influx of traffic.
The first eastern crossing was Holme Lacy Bridge (1972) linking Rotherwas to the M50 and the Midlands.
