A HEREFORDSHIRE care home's owners are investigating after the Care Quality Commission reported more coronavirus-related deaths at the home than they say their records reflect.
The Care Quality Commission reported that there had been 11 deaths at Charles Court Care Home in Hereford in information released this week.
The CQC data showed that more than 100 coronavirus deaths (where coronavirus was mentioned on the death certificate) have been reported in the county's residential care homes between April 2020 and March 2021.
But a spokesperson for the home said today: “We are extremely saddened by the deaths caused by Covid 19 among residents in our home.
"The pandemic has been an exceedingly busy time for care providers, and our priority has been ensuring the safety of our residents through the implementation of infection prevention and control procedures, in line with government guidance.

"Throughout this period, we have had to ensure that the authorities received timely notifications of care home deaths in line with our statutory obligations. In this instance, it appears that we have inadvertently over-reported the number of Covid deaths at the home. Our records show the correct figure is six residents died after testing positive for Covid 19. Although the total is lower than recorded by the CQC, this is still a high number, and our thoughts are with those who lost loved ones.
"We are investigating how the error occurred, and if necessary we will attempt to correct the official record.”
The CQC has been contacted for comment.
