After reading your headlines about the link road overspend, I am disgusted by the previous council as well as this one.

For a start why did it take this administration months to find the abuse of the previous administration and why was it hidden from us?

Where is the governance in council? The accountability to the tax payer?

My fear though is that these abuses are still going on. Who remembers the debacle of the bus lane in Commercial Road of last year?

Further to that, the cycle lane on Holme Lacy Road which is nothing more than a car park?

How do they come to these decisions?

We must remember that they are talking about building a new road, what overspend will this have, and will we the ratepayer ever get to hear about it?

Who will sign off on these mistakes?

It is not just an abuse of power; it is also an abuse of our money.

They need to be accountable now and before they embark on building anything else make sure that process is in place to kerb overspending and to ensure that suitable studies are compiled which consider the area and whether it works or not.

No wonder our council tax went up above the rise of inflation, we are paying for the administration’s mistakes. Time for these people in office to be held to account, not just the ones who made the mistakes but those who hid it too.

Isn’t it time we had a clear out of those who are prepared to bankrupt the city?
