POLICE say there is no wider risk to the public after a man was stabbed in the neck and stomach in Hereford.

West Mercia Police said a man, 52, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody.

What happened?

West Mercia Police said a man was stabbed in Hereford at 2.12am on Tuesday.

It happened in Dartmouth Court, a block of flats in Whittern Way, a statement said.

Has anyone been arrested?

One 52-year-old man from Hereford was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, police said.

The arrest was made after officers were called to the stabbing shortly after 2am on Tuesday.

What’s it like at the scene?

A police cordon remained at the scene on Wednesday afternoon. One police car was parked in Whittern Way, and one police officer could been seen guarding a door to a flat.

But the residential street is quiet today, as you might expect during the school holidays.

The colleges are a short walk away, but students are away for the summer, so there's only a few passing cars and the odd walker.

Other than the one police car near Dartmouth Court and one officer at the flat’s entrance, there was no wider police presence visible.

How is the victim?

Police released few details about the stabbing victim.

We know he’s a man, and he was treated for stab wounds to his neck and stomach.

Officers investigating the attempted murder said it was believed to be an isolated incident.

They said because the 52-year-old has been arrested, there’s not believed to be any wider risk to the public.
