The school holidays can be an expensive time but there's a whole host of free things to do in Herefordshire.
From cheese dairy tours to museums celebrating Herefordshire's history. There's lots to keep the kids busy over the next five weeks.
Here's a list of the top 10 free things to do, according to Tripadvisor:
1. Hereford Cathedral
Hereford cathedral is our biggest landmark and stands in the centre of Hereford. It is home to a community that has worshipped and worked together for more than 1300 years. Inside lies beautiful architecture and stain glass windows. Inside you can pay to see the Hereford Mappa Mundi – a famous unique medieval map. Entry is free.

2. The black and white village trail
This trail is a self-guided circular trail through the beautiful North Herefordshire countryside in Leominster. It takes about 40 minutes passing through the different villages. Along the way you see different black and white stately homes, open gardens and homely tea rooms.

3. St Mary's Church, Ross-on-Wye
This church is an ancient building that has served the community for centuries. Inside you can see wonderful carved screens, stain glass window and floor tiles. A fun activity for the kids is to find all the hedgehog carvings around the building. Sometimes you can find exhibitions relating to local scenes and people from history.

4. Made in Ross
Made in Ross is a co-operative of local arts and crafts producers living within 20 miles of the beautiful market town of Ross-on-Wye. It is Free admission to the Historic Market House Building and all Made in Ross gallery exhibitions.

5. Church Street in Ledbury
Perfect for a relaxing stroll, a mooch around the shops or a take yourself on a tour in the old church. After you can explore more of quant town of Ledbury.
6. The Thomas Blake memorial gardens
The Thomas Blake memorial gardens are situated in Ross-on-wye. On your stroll around the gardens you can see different flowers, statues and wildlife, for completely free.
7. Grange court
Grange court is situated in Leominster. Built in 1633, it is the last surviving known to be built by John Abel, a local master carpenter. Today it is a community, heritage and enterprise hub, owned by the people of Leominster through the LARC Development Trust. Admission is free.

8. Leominster museum
Leominster museum tells the story of its people from pre-Roman era to present day. The collection includes artefacts, photos, postcards and documents. You can see all this for free!

9. The Black and White House museum
Also known as the ‘old house’ has been called a ‘perfectly preserved Jacobean timber-framed house’ in Hereford high town. It holds nearly four centuries of Hereford history and it is free to take a tour!

10. Monkland Cheese Dairy
Monkland cheese dairy is a working dairy producing local artisan cheeses. Currently – due to covid – their tours aren’t available but there is still the option to learn to make cheese on one of their cheese experience days or visit their shop and café or walk around their lovely gardens. They are well signposted off the A44 on Brecon road just outside Leominster.
