THOUSANDS of pounds are up for grabs for a winning digital art idea in Herefordshire.

A £12.5K Virtual Reality Commission is offered by Rural Media to artists in Herefordshire and surrounding areas as a part of their Invisible Art Network (IAN).

The network is a collective of inspiring artists, arts organisations and technologists exploring how we can make and see more great Digital Art in and around Herefordshire.

The commission is aimed at inspiring artists and arts organisations to collaborate with technologists to explore, produce and exhibit innovative digital art.

It is open to all artists with Herefordshire, Worcestershire, and Shropshire postcodes, and offers a unique opportunity for rural artists to create innovative and surprising digital artwork.

It will start with a free online virtual reality (VR) Q&A workshop from award-winning virtual reality creator, podcast host and TEDx speaker, Alex Ruhl.

The Invisible Art Network workshop will take place September 15 from 10am-1pm.

Attendees will be given the opportunity to pitch ideas for a Virtual Reality commission.

12 artists will be shortlisted and invited to a further three development workshops during which they will develop their ideas, one of which will be awarded the bursary.

All applicants must attend the initial session and be available for the following three workshops.

Unsuccessful applicants will also be given access to the course materials but won't be eligible to apply for the commission.

Rural Media's Grant Black, creative director and deputy chief executive officer, said:

"We're delighted to be able to offer this commission bursary to artists in our traditionally undeserved counties.

"If we've learned anything over the last four years of Invisible Arts Network, it's those rural areas hold a great deal of undiscovered digital artistic talent, but artists need the support and funding in order to make their work."

Artists can book their place for the initial workshop with Alex Ruhl and learn more about the commission via invisible arts.
