THIEVES stole two large flags which had been lowered to half-mast near Hereford in the aftermath of the tragic 9/11 terrorist attacks, the Hereford Times reported in September 2001.
The flags, the Union Jack and the Cross of St George were flying at half-mast outside the Grafton Inn on the A49 near Hereford following the horrific events in the United States in a mark of respect to the victims of the attack.

They were stolen sometime during the early hours of September 15, 2001, with the two flagpoles on the roadside left naked.
Then-manager Chris Roberts, who described the theft as 'sick' said the flags would be replaced in due course.
