A MAN has been jailed after launching an 'unprovoked' attack on a police officer in Hereford.
Shane Pickersgill pleaded guilty when he appeared before magistrates in Leeds.
The court heard the 29-year-old had assaulted a police officer acting in the court of his duties by beating in Hereford on February 27.
He also failed without reasonable cause to surrender to custody at Hereford Magistrates Court while on bail on August 23.
He further admitted being drunk and disorderly in Hereford's Commercial Road on March 9, and threatening to smash another person's window in Ross-on-Wye on May 8.
Magistrates said the offences were serious because of his previous record of offending, because of the unprovoked nature of the attack, and because of his 'flagrant disregard' for court orders.
Pickersgill, who gave a care of address in Hunger Hill, Halifax, was jailed for eight weeks and received a 12-month restraining order. He must also pay compensation of £100 and a £128 victim surcharge.
