A COUPLE have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in Herefordshire by staying in the same guesthouse they spent their honeymoon in.
Mike and Pam Hayes, of Swanage in Dorset, spent their honeymoon at The Gables Guesthouse in Weobley back in 1971.
To mark their anniversary on September 25, they decided to return to Weobley and The Gables.
They have returned a few times in the years between, with their last visit being 12 years ago.
Mr Hayes said it was great to be back in Herefordshire.
He said: "We've had a soft spot for Herefordshire and particularly Weobley ever since we first came here.
"The Gables has changed a bit. It's been upgraded considerably over the years. Hotels were very different in those days.
"They had the receipt from when we stayed for our honeymoon and the price for that whole week was £11.60.
David Williams, owner of The Gables said it had been great to have the couple back up.
Mr William's parents ran the guesthouse back when the couple honeymooned there.
He said: "It must be a very unique situation for a couple to stay in the same place 50 years apart with the same family still running it.
"We've managed to find the visitors book they signed when they first stayed here. It's great to have them back, they're such a nice couple."
