A HEREFORD landlady was fondly remembered for her popular pubs and warm welcome.

The Buckingham Inn, which is now Tesco Express in Whitecross Road, was reminisced by people in our Facebook group We Grew up in Hereford.

Michael Jones, who shared a photo of the old pub, said: "Another great pub in its day.

“I worked for the lovely landlady at her previous pub in Widemarsh Street around 1975.”

Sarah Lou reminisced on her parents 25th wedding anniversary in the pub's skittles alley.

Others remembered the pub’s long beer garden.

Jo Thomas said: "My great grandfather built the Buckingham."

People knew the name of the pub’s landlady to be Nancy during the 70s, and she was remembered for her hospitality.

Colin Spurling said: "Always a warm welcome from Nancy, great team too."

Mr Jones shared that Nancy's other pub was The Racehorse Inn, which used to be in Widemarsh Street, Hereford.

It was also known as The Entertainer according to closedpubs.co.uk

Nancy’s son was also a jockey, said Peter Virgo., making the pub’s name quite fitting for the family.

Michael Jones speculated that she left The Racehorse in the late 70s but he could not be exact, he said.

Many wondered if Nancy was still living in Hereford.

Robert Yarwood said: "I was talking to Nancy a couple of days ago, she was outside fish and chip shop Edwards Plaice, in Grandstand Road.

“She has not changed. She said it is 30 years since she left the Buck.

“She now lives in Bobblestock."

The landlord before Nancy was Harry Teal, said Mr Jones.

"I think he used to play many a tune on the organ when I knew him," said David Lawrence.
