Hampton Grange and Gwen Walford Nursing Homes implement a full schedule of inspiring activities to keep residents active and entertained. Autumn may bring in colder temperatures and fewer daylight hours, but that does not stop the ever-enthusiastic activities coordinators and residents from putting on a few extra layers and taking activities outside.
Residents agree that a mixture of fresh air, exercise and nature enriches their wellbeing. There is nowhere better to appreciate the great outdoors than in the heart of the sumptuous Hampton Grange and Gwen Walford grounds located on Hereford’s leafy Hampton Park Road.
With the River Wye running along the back of the estate and an abundance of trees, you can see why residents are eager to spend time in the grounds, especially with autumnal colours in full bloom.
Residents have enjoyed a whole range of autumnal outdoor activities, from planting seeds at the care homes’ gardening club to decorating foliage at their art club. There has been even more reason to get outdoors with the arrival of autumn’s Harvest Festival and Halloween – celebrations which our activities coordinators encourage residents to participate in.
As part of Harvest Festival celebrations, residents enjoyed making scarecrows. For Halloween, residents took a trip to Ledbury Pumpkin Patch, where they had an invigorating walk around the farm and picked pumpkins.
The activities coordinator Nicky said: "Outdoor activities are thoroughly enjoyed at Hampton Grange and Gwen Walford. Residents love trees and the changing colours of the season – it makes them reminisce of their childhood.
"Our busy gardening club will do anything to promote the welfare of the environment - we have planted seeds foraged during ‘Seed Collecting Month’ to get Britain bursting with trees for future generations.
"Autumn bulb planting is underway, and we are already looking forward to seeing what sprouts in the spring”.
