A REPEAT offender made abusive calls to 999 staff, a court has heard.

Martin Glover pleaded guilty to sending a threatening communication when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford.

Glover, who was previously jailed for two weeks for sending a malicious communication in May, had made three abusive calls that were intended to cause distress or anxiety to police 999 call handlers on October 14, prosecutor Elizabeth Blacklock said.

He also admitted breaching the terms of a conditional discharge order imposed by magistrates in August.

Chris Read, for Glover, said the 61-year-old had been being supported by Vennture and probation since his release from prison.

"He is a man who has been through a number of traumatic incidents in recent years," Mr Read said.

"On that day the nature of the calls were threats of self harm," he said.

"Police attended and he was detained at the police station, where he spent several hours in custody.

"He is subject to post-sentence supervision and has support."

The court heard from a probation report that Glover had been attending all his appointments and was regularly speaking to his probation officer.

Glover, of Church Street, Ledbury, was handed a £40 fine and must pay a £34 victim surcharge. No costs were ordered and no action was taken on the breach of conditional discharge.
