HEREFORD has undergone a major transformation in recent years, with the demolition of the city's old livestock market and the construction of the new city link road.

And the changes over the last decade have rendered some of the city's sights almost unrecognisable.

Here, we have taken a walk down memory lane, with a selection of then and now pictures from Google Maps.

Newmarket Street, Hereford.

The old livestock market in the centre of Hereford is a familiar, but now lost, sight for many of us.

Many Herefordians will remember the bustle of market day in the city, or visiting the shops on the livestock market site.

The market was demolished in 2012 to make way for the new Old Market shopping development.

Now the entrance to the Old Market shopping centre car park, these gates once provided access to the livestock market from Blackfriars Street.

By late 2011, they were boarded up, as the livestock market moved to its new home off the Roman Road, near Stretton Sugwas.

Merton Meadow

Whether you're a football fan, or just a fan of cheap parking, Merton Meadow has long been a site frequented by many Herefordians.

But its Blackfriars Street entrance has undergone a major transformation in recent years, with new flats built and the old buildings opposite the football stadium demolished to make way for the city's new Premier Inn.

Rockfield DIY

Who didn't love a trip to Rockfield DIY?

From garden equipment, tools, and hardware, to stocking fillers, it was an Aladdin's Cave that is still fondly missed by many.

The shop would be demolished to make way for the new city link road, first becoming a car park and later the site of the city's new student accommodation block.

City Link Road, Edgar Street

Who remembers buying fuel here? This Edgar Street petrol station is now long gone, demolished to make way for the city link road.

City Link Road, Widemarsh St

And finally, this end of Widemarsh Street is almost unrecognisable now, with businesses cleared to make way for the city link road, which joins the A465 at the bottom of Aylestone Hill with the A49 Edgar Street.
