A HEREFORD school has worked their way out of special measures after a recent Ofsted inspection, leaving Herefordshire without a single primary school with this rating.

The Brookfield School, in Grandstand Road, is for pupils between seven and 16 with special educational needs.

Previously Ofsted said the school failed to provide an acceptable standard of education, after an inspection in December 2019 which left it in special measures. This means there is a need for the school to receive additional, external support to secure the rating 'requires improvement'.

Ofsted added the persons responsible for leading, managing or governing the school were not demonstrating the capacity to secure the necessary improvement in the school, in Grandstand Road.

This has led it to be bumped up to 'requires improvement' and 'good' in personal development.

Ofsted said the school is aware that there is still work to do to improve, such as ensuring that the new curriculum is consistently well delivered.

But the school are also focusing on improving the right things at the right time.

Attendance has been an issue for the school, and although it is getting better it is not yet good enough, said Ofsted.

But, inspectors said, the school also focuses on strong working relationships with outside agencies to prepare children for adulthood.

Head Teacher Michelle Parkes said: "I am incredibly proud of all the hard work done by the staff team, and of the way that the pupils talked to the inspectors and have continued to try their very best.

"I was deeply touched by the warm, positive comments many parents and carers made around how much the school has supported their families and made a difference to the lives of their children.

"This was personally a very important moment for me as that is what the team and I have been working towards over the last two years."
