A HEREFORDSHIRE school has beaten off the competition to take a national prize home.
Lady Hawkins School, in Kington, Herefordshire, was delighted to discover it had beaten more than 265 other schools to win a prestigious national prize.
Hundreds of the school's pupils took part in a maths competition by learning platform Eedi.
The pupils' efforts have won vouchers for the maths department and if they win the league, they could win £500 for the school at the end of term.
The competition centres on the children solving daily maths puzzles.
The more pupils who join in from a school, the more points are scored and the more likely a school is to win.
The Eedi School League is open to every nine to 14-year-old in the country, and celebrates effort, perseverance, and hard work, meaning children of all abilities can enter and win prizes.
Head of maths at Lady Hawkins School Sophie Collister said: "As a small school based in rural Herefordshire, we weren't initially expecting anything to come from entering the Eedi winter league.
"It is true testament to the hard work and persevering attitude of Lady Hawkins' pupils that they have achieved first place in the country in little over a week.
"We really hope they can win the league; they truly deserve it."
Ben Caulfield from Eedi said: "Out of thousands of children who are participating in the Eedi School League, they won the prize because of their consistent commitment to learning maths."
