A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs and dangerous driving after allegedly crashing into a man on a mobility scooter causing him serious injuries this morning.
Police were called to the crash on the A49 near the Asda store in Hereford at 7.05am this morning (Wednesday).
The crash involved a white VW Polo and a mobility scooter.
The man on the mobility scooter has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Reporting live:
“The two men in the Polo stopped at the scene,” said police in a statement.
“The driver was initially arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs, and was further arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
“He is currently in custody.
“The A49 northbound at the pedestrian crossing from Asda fuel station/Drybridge Walk was closed but one lane has since reopened.
“The A49 southbound has also been reduced to one lane. There is considerable congestion and motorists are advised to avoid the area."
A spokesman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "“We were called to reports of a collision between a car and a mobility scooter near to Greyfriars Bridge at 7.05am, one ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene.
"On arrival we discovered one patient, a man, who was from the mobility scooter. He was treated for serious injuries and taken to Hereford Hospital for further treatment.”
