A DRUNKEN turkey farm worker has been fined for his behaviour after he was seen stumbling into a road and spitting at people.

Eduards Ivanovs admitted one count of drunk and disorderly behaviour when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford.

The 25-year-old, who appeared to be very drunk, was seen stumbling around, falling into fences and the road, and causing a nuisance in Leominster's Mill Street at 4.30pm on December 22, prosecutor Shafquat Reaz said.

Two drivers stopped their cars and tried to speak to Ivanovs, who became animated, aggressive, and started spitting on the floor and towards the drivers.

Police were called to the scene, and Ivanovs, who was described as having glazed eyes, being incoherent, and tensing his muscles, was arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

Speaking on his own behalf, Ivanovs, who was previously convicted of two counts of being drunk and disorderly in November, said he did not know why he had been drinking that day.

"I had been drinking at home and this is not something I usually do," he said.

The court heard Ivanovs, who works as a turkey catcher, has been living in the UK for six months and enjoys his work but sometimes finds it difficult being in Britain, although he said he was not homesick.

"I am very ashamed and very sorry," Ivanovs said.

"I have not drunk for two weeks, apart from a little on December 31."

Ivanovs, of Coningsby Street, Hereford, was fined £200 and must pay costs of £135 and a £34 victim surcharge.
