REPAIRS to a busy road near Hereford will take place this month, more than a year after an embankment was washed away.

A lane has been closed on the B4399 between Hereford and Holme Lacy since Storm Bella caused a small landslip at Dinedor Mill in December 2020, Herefordshire Council said.

It meant the bank next to the bridge over the Tar's Brook was washed away, and a lane was closed and temporary traffic lights were put up.

But that work will take place for five weeks from Monday (February 7).

Contractor Balfour Beatty Living Places said in a letter to locals that the road would not be closed as it carried out the necessary scour repair works.

"Works will commence on Monday, February 7 and will take up to five weeks to complete," the letter said.

"We will be working under two-way traffic lights for the duration of the works to continue to allow traffic to use the road."

The company said it appreciate peoples' ongoing patience and apologised for any inconvenience.

The council said in November that the delay in scheduling repairs was due to the damage being near the brook.

A spokesperson said it meant ecological assessments and a Habitats Regulations Screening Assessment (HRSA) were needed to see if work would affect the protected features of the site before going ahead with it.

The assessments were completed in the autumn and work would be scheduled.
