POLICE have issued an urgent warning to dog owners after an out of control spaniel bit a man near Hereford's SAS camp.

West Mercia Police said the chocolate spaniel had run up to a member of the public and bit his leg near Sugwas Pool, near the Ministry of Defence site in Credenhill.

The bite caused the victim a lot of pain, PCSO Adam Westlake said, and he shared a description of the dog's owner.

She has been described as woman and in her 50s, wearing typical farm type clothing and a woolly hat.

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting reference  22/9965/22.

PCSO Westlake also reminded dog owners about rules surrounding out of control pets.

"It’s an offence to let a dog be dangerously out of control whether that’s in public or private," he said.

A dog is considered to be out of control if it injures someone or it makes someone worried that it might injure them.

"Please note, a farmer is allowed to kill your dog if it’s worrying their livestock," he said.
