A DRIVER has been handed a hefty penalty after he was caught with balding tyres on a Hereford main road.
Philip Watkins was proven guilty by magistrates in Hereford.
The court heard the 52-year-old had been caught behind the wheel of a Toyota Hilux with a balding tyre, with the tread measuring below the legal limit of 1.6mm in Hereford's Roman Road on July 1.
He was also towing a trailer which had a tyre with the cord exposed.
Watkins, of Bringsty, Herefordshire, was fined a total of £880 and received three penalty points. He must also pay costs of £90 and an £88 victim surcharge.
