A 10-YEAR-OLD girl from Herefordshire is shaving her head in memory of her beloved grandma who died after a long and difficult battle with a disease.
Darcey Jones, of Weobley, will shave off her very long hair on April 2.
In July 2019 Darcey’s grandma Gill Lycett was diagnosed with motor neurone disease.
She died in May 2021 after a difficult 23-month battle with the life-limiting disease, said Darcey’s mother, Clare Jones.
The struggle her grandma went through made Darcey to want to help other families living with the disease.

In the run up to shaving her head Darcey is raising money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
She came up with the idea to shave her hair off for the charity while her grandma was still alive.
“I thought she would lose interest after mum died but she didn’t,” said Mrs Jones.
“The family, her friends and teachers are all very proud of her.”
Her hair will also be donated to local charity The Little Princess Trust.

“This was also her idea,” said Mrs Jones.
Darcey was initially worried that her friends may tease her about it but since she told them they have been very supportive, she said.
The family’s hairdresser Kate from London House, in Weobley, will be cutting and shaving Darcey’s hair.
“She is very excited about it,” said Mrs Jones.
“Everyone thinks she is very brave.”
The family hope to organise a small event on the day.
