A HEREFORDSHIRE town has come out in force for an event to support its local businesses.
Shoppers were out in support of Leominster's businesses for the town's inaugural "Independents Day", an initiative to entice people back to the high street.
Crowds flocked to the towns' market in Corn Square to sample and buy local produce, and to its wealth of unique shops to give them a much-needed boost after two years of Covid restrictions.
There were activities on offer for all the family, including a trail for children which took them to different shops in the town on the hunt for clues.
There was an array of street entertainment throughout the day on Saturday, with buskers and Morris dancers entertaining the crowds.
Leominster's "Mysterious Monk" was also on hand to offer visitors a free walking tour of the town's new heritage trail.
Vince Lane, who owns Ye Olde Sweet Shop in School Lane, got into the spirit of the day and busked on his guitar outside the shop to entertain passers-by.
He said: "There has been a great atmosphere around the town today. It's been great to have everyone back and that the sun has come out for it."
"I thought I would sing some songs to encourage some donations to help the people of Ukraine today. All they are looking for is independence, just like us."
Steve Vaughan, owner of eco-friendly gift shop Biobab, said that the day had been great for everyone and built on the momentum created by the council's Shop Local scheme, which saw £25 handed out to households who signed up.
He said: "I believe that there is a demand for businesses like us, for quirky, unique shops, cafes and products."
"Days like this will only help reinforce that feeling. It's been great for all of us."
Town crier Richard Brookman was in Corn Square for the opening and praised the initiative.
He said: "Leominster is a great place that has so much to offer, lots of unique, sometimes niche, shops that cater for everyone."
"It is brilliant that these are being celebrated today."
