A DOG has died after it fell from the summit of South Wales's highest peak in the Brecon Beacons.
Brecon Mountain Rescue Team said it was called at 11am on Monday by Dyfed-Powys Police to help a man whose dog had run off the top of Pen y Fan, near Brecon.
The team, which is made up of volunteers, said the dog was supervised and on a lead, but it chased a piece of litter off the summit and fell onto the northeast face.

Team members helped to retrieve the dog but said that sadly it did not survive the fall from Pen y Fan, which is the highest peak in South Wales.
But as the team were on the steep ground working, some members of the public were throwing stones off the top, not knowing that team members were working on the face beneath them.

"Please be mindful of what is below when you are on the mountains and never throw anything off cliffs," the team, which relies on donations, said.
"Our thoughts are with the dog’s owners who have experienced this tragic accident through no fault of their own.
"During the rescue two dogs were seen off the lead on the summit. Please keep your dog under control at all times and do not put yourself at risk by going onto the face."
