A HEREFORD kebab shop will be opening its doors in memory of its much-loved owner after his death last month.
Jamal Haider was a familiar face to many in Herefordshire, having run the Bridge Street Jamal's Kebab House for many years.
He had also run for election as a councillor in the Newton Farm ward of the city in 2015.
Hundreds paid tribute to the city 'legend' after his death was announced on February 19.
Mayor of Hereford, Councillor Paul Stevens was among those to share his condolences.
"Jamal was a legend in the city and particularly of the night time economy," Coun Stevens said.
"Jamal's Kebab House opened in Bridge Street in the mid 80s and probably reached a peak in the 90s when revellers queued past his premises to rave the night away in The Crystal Rooms."
His funeral was held in Birmingham in February, and now his family will be holding a local 'wake' by opening up the shop to his customers.

In a post on the kebab shop's social media page, Mr Haider's family said: "Dad always used to say that the day he retired from work, he would open up for one day and invite everyone to come to the shop and eat before he closes up. In reflection of this, we have decided to open the shop up on Saturday 2nd April 2022, for the people of Hereford. We were going to do this between 4pm and 6pm.
"We know many couldn't attend the funeral and have been asking for a funeral reception/wake."
