A HEREFORDSHIRE man who was driven to the Ukraine border has called out for “mountains” of bandages after coming face-to-face with injured refugees.
Andreas Evangelou, 62, of Madley, has driven to the Poland-Ukraine border in his fully laden BMW estate, which he is also using to ferry refugees from the border cross-points to Warsaw and Krakow.
On the sixth day of his mission Mr Evangelou has asked the people of Herefordshire to drop off “mountains” of bandages to Oakwrights, in Swainshill.
“News from the other side is they need bandages, gauzes and military-style first aid boxes as 80 per cent of all casualties are bleeding out,” he said.
He said he will arrange for someone to take them to the border.
“They also desperately need metal jerry cans as they are low on fuel and are syphoning fuel from damaged military tanks as Putin has taken out most of the fuel storage sites.
“The daily nonmilitary rescue missions are taking fuel and bandages one way and bringing casualties including a one-legged man, mothers, and children back.”
He is also organising for drop-offs in Plymouth.
He has received material and financial support from several businesses and individuals in Hereford, and his GoFundMe page has received 105 donations totalling £4939 to fund his basic accommodation and fuel costs.
