A Herefordshire man who spent two weeks providing a “refugee taxi service” from the Ukrainian border has vowed to return to the area despite setbacks.
Andy Evangelou of Madley had planned to join an aid convoy from eastern Poland to Lviv last week, but on the morning of the departure was laid low with food poisoning “from a dodgy refugee kitchen meal”, he said.
Forced to return to the UK, he is now gathering up medical supplies to take back and intends to join a convoy to the Ukrainian city after Easter.
“Bandages and dressings are needed at a makeshift hospital there for those wounded on the front line,” he said, explaining that many lives are being lost for want of these basic medical supplies.
These can still be dropped off at the Oakwrights depot at Swainshill west of Hereford.
Donations can also still be made to his GoFundMe page, which currently shows £6,000 raised from 126 donations.

“It was emotionally overwhelming, I am still hearing Polish and Ukrainian in my sleep,” Mr Evangelou added. “But I know I brought the right things last time, and was good at the logistics.
“Now it’s something I have to see through.”
