THE HEREFORDSHIRE GP surgeries with the most and least patients per doctor have been revealed in data from NHS England.
There are 20 GP surgeries in Herefordshire, with a total number of 204,652 patients registered between them.
The surgery with the greatest number of patients registered is Hereford Medical Group, with 49,525 patients.
In second place is Ledbury Health Partnership, with 13,610 patients, while Cantilupe Surgery in Hereford has 12,182 registered patients, Alton Street Surgery in Ross has 11,211, and The Marches Surgery in Leominster has 10,697.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Hereford Medical Group has the most GPs, with 36 on the books.
Next up in the top five are Nunwell Surgery in Bromyard and Cantilupe, with 12 each, while The Marches Surgery, and Alton Street Surgery both have 10.
At the other end of the scale are Cradley and Colwall surgeries, which both have two GPs, Golden Valley Practice, with three, and Belmont Medical Centre and Pendeen Surgery in Ross-on-Wye, with six GPs each.
But, figures reveal, while the Herefordshire average is 1,218.2 patients per GP, which is significantly lower than the 2019 national average of 2,100 per GP, some surgeries have significantly more patients per GP than others.
The surgery with the heaviest caseload per GP is the Golden Valley Practice, with 1,973 patients per GP, well above the local average.
It is followed by Cradley Surgery, with 1,795.5 per GP.
Ledbury Health Partnership is in third place, with 1,701.25 per GP, Colwall Surgery is fourth, with 1,588 per GP, and Belmont Medical Centre is fifth, with 1,493.3 per GP.
Herefordshire's biggest GP surgery, Hereford Medical Group, has 1,372.7 patients per GP.
At the bottom of the scale, with the fewest patients per GP is Fownhope Medical Centre, with 763.5 per GP.
In second place is Nunwell Surgery, with 796.8 per GP.
The Surgery, Kingstone, is third, with 820.5 per GP, Much Birch Surgery is fourth, with 835.5 per GP, and Cantilupe Surgery, with 1,015.2 per GP is in fifth place.
