A POPULAR Hereford tourist attraction is to return after a three-year absence due to Covid restrictions.
Hereford Cathedral is to open up its tower to the general public for the first time since 2019. Adventurous visitors can climb the tower’s 218 steps to be rewarded with some of the finest views of the city and beyond.
Tours include a visit to the Lantern Gallery, and the bell-ringing chamber, with a set of panoramic interpretation boards to help understand the views from the very top.
The tour will return on Saturday, April 16, and will run on Saturdays and Wednesdays from April until September. Tours may not take place if the weather is poor.
Graham Bennett, head of the Tower Tour Guides, is delighted to be able to show visitors aspects of the Cathedral that they wouldn't normally see.
He said: "It is a privilege to have access to some of the hidden recesses of the Cathedral, and a pleasure to show them to visitors. We get to see how parts of the Cathedral were built and, as well as the views from the top over the city and into four counties, we have stunning views of the interior of the Cathedral on our way up."
Tours cost £6 for adults, £5 for students and £3 for children under 16, and can be purchased on the day from the Cathedral Shop. Visit https://www.herefordcathedral.org/tower-tours for details and dates.
