POLICE in Hereford have checked out two men after reports of them cold-calling in the city.
West Mercia Police said the two men had been visiting homes in the Belmont area and asking people to sign up to a hearing charity for deaf children.
PCSO Carol Marsh said the pair asked questions about "the hearing of deaf children in schools" and if would people be prepared to donate on a regular basis.
No bank details were taken by the callers, only contact details, and police said they had checked the men out and said they were genuine.
One male is described as five foot and five inches, of a slim build and with short brown hair. He is thought to be in his 20s.
The reports say he is smartly dressed in a blue suit, wearing a coat and a photo ID that had very small print.
But there is no description of the second man other than that he is black.
PCSO Marsh said the men have been checked out by police and are canvassing on behalf of National Children's Deaf Society and wear ID.
