OBJECTIONS for Lidl’s plans to demolish Hereford’s Three Counties Hotel, in Belmont Road, has risen over the last couple of days and one resident has shared their concerns for children’s safety.

A total of 35 objections and one comment have been submitted to Herefordshire Council after Lidl asked for planning permission.

Since the budget supermarket shared its proposed plans, people living in the area have worried about how it could bring further traffic congestion to an already busy road.

As part of Lidl's plans, which would see the hotel bulldozed, it wants to make changes to Belmont Road to help some 2,500 cars visit the proposed supermarket every day.

Lidl also wants outline permission for a drive-thru coffee shop at the site.

Alice Roat, of Little Dewchurch, fears for the children living in the area if the plans go ahead and the traffic increases.

“McDonalds already caused massive traffic issues with people queuing to get in and out, and it is only a matter of time before there is another accident on this road, adding another drive-thru and supermarket will only add to this risk,” she said.

“My fear it is only a matter of time before someone is knocked down and killed along this stretch of road, possibly a child.

“I do believe passing this planning application will be yet another blow to our wonderful city, it’s ludicrous.”

OTHER NEWS:

Another resident living in Belmont, Marie Lewis, worried about the number of lorries bringing goods into the supermarket and how much traffic congestion this could lead to.

She also worried how it might affect the independent shops in the city.

“Our shops will also suffer,” she said.

While others raised concerns about how there would not be a hotel in south Hereford if the Three Counties were to be demolished.

Consultation on the plans is still ongoing.
